Based in the Department of Politics and International Relations the Public Policy Unit exists to co-ordinate research by members of the various departments of Oxford University on public policy. The PPU has a director, Stuart White, and a research director, Iain Mclean, and has access to experts in disciplines throughout the University. Many Oxford faculty members give expert advice to governments, legislatures, and international organisations.

Stuart
White, Tutorial Fellow in Politics, Jesus College
A Fellow of Jesus College since 1999, Stuart became Director of the PPU in October 2007. His research focuses on the philosophy and politics of egalitarianism; particular areas of interest are tax and social policy.
Iain
McLean, Professor of Politics and Official Fellow, Nuffield College
An Official Fellow of Nuffield College, Iain has many years' background in public policy research and was PPU Director until October 2007. He has twice been an elected councillor and has advised government departments and Select Committees. The Secretary of State for Wales gave Iain, among others, the credit for his 1997 decision to return money raided from the Aberfan Disaster Fund by the then government in 1970.
His research interests include public choice, electoral systems, public administration and public finance, UK government, and Enlightenment political thought.
Iain directs the Options for Britain II project which is based within PPU.
